Dr. Shigemi Furuta is currently a Visiting Scholar to the Center, engaging in the lecture support to its family business curriculum, planning the research projects and implementing them together with the Center colleagues. Those projects include Japanese family business, the secrets of its longevity, international comparison of business sustainability.
Dr, Furuta also serves as Visiting Professor at Kyushu University School of Business, the Advisory Member for its Curriculum Review, and its Academic Research Fellow for 2025~2026.
Dr. Furuta also serves as Director, Japan Society of HK where she teaches regular course of Shinise of Japan, Director, HK-Japan Business Study Center where she published numbers of publication regarding Chinese management, and Century-old Japanese Stores, etc.
She acquired Ph.D (International Relations) from Ritsumaikan University, Kyoto, MBA form Kobe University, Kobe, MPA from International Christian University (ICU), Tokyo, Japan.
She is the former head of Japanese market operation of HK Trade Development Council, Director, Japan of the quasi-government institution of HKSAR for 1985~2016. She taught International Trade Management at the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), University of Macau for 2018~2020, She was Visiting Scholar and Visiting Professor at Sun Yat-sen University for 2016~2017. For its contribution of HK/Japan relationship, she was conferred Consul-General Commendation of Hong Kong in 2017.
