Our Center believes that one of the ways to promote greater knowledge and understanding about these businesses is to bring together academic researchers and practitioners. Through dialogues and sharing of information proactively, practitioners will be able to know more about the most current academic insights, while researchers can gain access to information that would help their research. With this in mind, the Center organized the first HKUST Asian Family Business Roundtable in August 2009. It attracted more than 120 participants from Asia and North America, the largest academic-practitioner conference on family business so far in Asia. Topics of the Roundtable covered the differences between East and West in succession planning, family governance, professional managers in family businesses, financing growth and whether family businesses in Asia were different from those elsewhere. There was also a research talk on private wealth management.
