There are many similarities between the Overseas Chinese and the Jewish Diaspora. Both are self-reliant, hardworking, value education and family, wealth accumulators, strong close-knit society and at times had to survive discrimination, prejudices and atrocities in their countries of residence. Yet there are some important differences between the two. In this talk, Prof. Roger King, the Founding Center of the Center, highlights these similarities, differences and discusses why the 14 million Jews are so influential in today’s world. Roger also argues that the 40 million Overseas Chinese can also be influential and be impactful globally by adopting some of the Jewish behavior but still retain their Asian values.
