Recently, the Roger King Center for Asian Family Business and Family Office successfully conducted the new module of its signature program, “HKUST Global Family Leader Succession Program: From Family Business to Family Office”.
The exclusive program brought together multi-generational family members from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan. The Center’s Senior Advisor, Prof. Roger KING, and Director, Prof. Winnie PENG, provided their original research and case studies addressing practical issues and engaged participants in in-depth discussions. The Center was also fortunate to invite family members from renowned families for closed-door exchanges to share their valuable experiences, along with top scholars and experts from Europe and the United States joined to contribute a global perspective on family businesses and family offices. Over the three days, families from different regions sparked ideas through interaction and distilled wisdom through case discussions, spending a rewarding and enlightening learning experience together.
The program received overwhelmingly high ratings and positive feedback from participants:
A second-generation member of a Taiwanese family emphasized: “The program content is deeply insightful and opened another dimension of thinking about the family office. Through vivid, real-world cases, I gained concrete, actionable experience from the clash of perspectives among professors, guests, and participants. The program was thoughtfully organized, and the discussion sessions were tightly aligned with the family’s actual needs, providing direct inspiration and value for me and my family business. I will apply what I learned to my family governance and succession practice to ensure my family can smoothly pass the baton to the next generation.”
The founder of a Chinese Mainland family business said, “The sharing from Asian families with diverse backgrounds in the program allowed me to see the complete evolution from family business to business family, and then to family office. Succession is not only about wealth and business, but about establishing a clear set of values and governance framework across generations to guide decisions and collaboration in complex situations. The practical cases helped us break out of a single perspective, reexamine the pain points of family succession, and prompted me and my family members to start meaningful conversations. I strongly recommend multiple generations participate!”
Stay tuned for our Center’s upcoming programs!
